Bicycle waffling

Today I bought some new Pannier carrier bags for my bicycle . I did have some that I bought from a Chinese seller on eBay . They were very cheap, but barely lasted a couple of weeks. Well maybe about a month . The new ones I got from the local big sports store and costs me €20 and they look like they will last a good bit longer. I am also thinking about getting a handlebar bag so that I can spread the weight from the rear of the bicycle towards the front.

Feeling guilty

This afternoon I didn’t ride the bike to work and I feel a little bit guilty. I miss using the bicycle when I leave it at home, I feel like I am missing out on an exercise session. I left the bicycle at home today because it really looked like it was going to rain and there is nothing quite as miserable as a bicycling in the rain. That reminds me of when I was a teenager and cycling everywhere on my road bicycle , mind you mountain bikes hadn’t been invented in those days. In order to keep myself dry I had at times a poncho style cape which covered nearly the whole of my bicycle and myself although you did also need to use waterproof shoes and waterproof trousers at the same time in order to keep dry. The only thing was, is that the wet weather gear was not very good in terms of letting your body breath and so you did get quite a bit sweaty using this gear. Of course, there were other times when I was out on my bicycle and I just got wet.

In days of old when knights were bold

I used to cycle half an hour or 40 minutes from my house to the school that are used to go to. Then a few years later, even though I also had a car, I used to use the bicycle to get from the town where I was living with my grandparents to the place where I worked, which was a fair distance away. I can’t remember how many miles it was , kilometres also hadn’t been invented in England in those days , I will have to have a look at Google maps and see how far it was. I used to be as fit as a fiddle in those days and now that I am using my bicycle more I am starting to get that way again.

Strava app.

My son likes to use the Strava app to keep track of his bike rides. I have used it a couple of times myself and it is very good. Can’t just it now though as it is for muscle power only cycling. They should make a version for electric bike riders for the challenge part of the application.

My Tracks

I do have an Android app to use that records my bike trips, called My Tracks. Good to have but doesn’t have the community aspect that Strava has. I like this app because it has some very useful information ready for you when you have finished you trip.
