No Good and Geeky NaNoWriMo in 2014

No NaNoWriMo this year for me

I really thought that I would do the NaNoWriMo this year after reading some books about how to organise myself for writing a novel. The only trouble is, is that I didn’t get organised in time to start for the beginning of November. I did some serious procrastination after the 12th of October when I really thought I would be doing all of the background work, so that I could just sit down and write from the 1st of November. It didn’t help that the last few days of October I was travelling in Ireland and just too busy.

It’s not all bad though

This does leave me free to dive into my non-fiction books for the Good and Geeky brand. I have set myself the goal of publishing four of these Good And Geeky books before I have to go back to work as a receptionist at the campsite. Two of these books are quite close to being finished. Very close, inasmuch as I have most of the text written for a couple of these books and only the editing needs to be done. Well, not just the editing, there is also the setting out with pictures and videos to accompany the text. I am going to have two jump into using OmniFocus on my iPad and on my Mac to create lists of things that have to be done for each of these books. I need this sort of organisation if I stand any chance whatsoever of achieving my goal.

The editing process for Kindle books

Not just for Kindle books, but for any books the editing is a big job. You can read through your book numerous times, as in six or seven times. You will still manage to find some typos and grammatical errors that need changing. At the same time you will see places where you need to change the organisation of your book and perhaps even add more text. If you do that then it adds more to what needs to be done, so be it. At some point of time though, you do have to make a decision and say enough is enough. The book has to get out there and you have to console yourself with the fact that you can still make changes, do updates and re-upload. I am fairly sure that by the end of the process of editing the books, I will be sick of reading through them. At least I will know that they are as good as they are going to be before I send them out into the world.

Then starting on the next book

The first Good and Geeky book is all about how to beat writers block by using a software and hardware-based writers workflow. The next book to be finished off is the one about photography. Quite a few articles for this will have been culled from photography articles that I have published on my websites. These articles can’t just be dropped into a book, they have to be edited and added to. The Good and Geeky photographers guide will be full of unpublished information for those of us that want to get the best out of photography in a technological way. Then the third book will be about life logging which is also called life casting and it is about how to use technology and social media to create your own story and personal brand. If you take part in the social networks already, then you do this to a certain extent anyway. There are applications that you can use on mobile devices as well as your desktop computer which can help you do it even better.
