The Archers, Game of Thrones and iPad Journal apps

Thinking of the three new things that I have learned today ready for my audio Boo of the day.

The first thing that comes to mind is in relation to the podcast that I was listening to this morning which was the archers countryside drama podcast omnibus. I have realised that I listened to this out of a perverse hanging on to the past. I used to listen to it when I was knee-high to a grasshopper at my grandma’s house on a Sunday morning. It was on the radio whether I wanted to listen to it or not. Now when I’m listening to it I find that I am annoyed by the present writers that it has.
The writing is so female orientated that all the story lines seem to have wailing babies and the like. Maybe I am just a grumpy bastard now but I don’t like the sound of babies crying and even less in something that is supposed to be a entertaining drama story. It reminds me of the time when I had a 2 ½ hour conversation with the actor that played the role of Phil Archer in the radio play. He looks nothing like he sounded on the radio with the appearance more like an Oxford don than the ruddy faced farmer he sounded like. He told me about there being a bit of a lull at the time with the storyline and thought it was due to the writers that they had at the time.

Why I am doing Audioboos on three new learned things per day

The reason that I have decided on a three new things to be learned everyday for this audio Boo is due to the story in the book game of thrones and the character that is played by Maisie Williams, Arya Stark. There is a part in the story where she is learning things in a religious establishment and one of the tasks that she has is to recite three new thing she has learned for the day.

Hojoki, Social Diary and Everyday.me

In the previous audio audio boo I mentioned some applications that I am checking out. Every day.me, social diary and the other one with a Japanese sounding name which is called Hojoki.

EverydayI am writing down the ideas for this audio go directly into my journalling application called Day One but I found it interesting to see that these other applications brought together feeds from various places. So in social diary I can see whatever I have posted in Facebook and Twitter and it is quite nice to get an overview of my social network posting. It also connects up with Instagram. I have discovered that the app is not particularly responsive on the iPad and it needs a bit more work.

The application Everyday.me is similar except that it also connects up with foursquare. I like the way that it sends me an email with a blast from the past to show me what tweets et cetera I was posting out last year and two years ago and three years ago. I have learnt that this is a better application than Social Diary. It just does more all-around.

The other one has a greater range of applications that you can connect into such as Evernote, pocket Trello, Dropbox, Google Drive and Delicious – and a whole lot more. Although some of them are more of interest to developers of software. It doesn’t do Facebook or foursquare but it does like it could be quite useful for some collaboration type work.

So that’s all I have for today’s audio boo.
