Subtitles onto a film with Handbrake

Handbrake add subtitles

It took me a few goes yesterday to work out how to add subtitles onto a film. I tried using ScreenFlow to do the job and although it is supposed to work it didn’t. In the end I found that the only way I could do it was with Handbrake. That’s a handy application to keep around even though I am not using it up a lot lately. I’ve been using the other program – IVi Lite to convert movies ready to put into iTunes. That one is much better because it does the job automatically and finds the data about the movie to add to the meta data. The film I wanted subtitles for is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. There are sections of the movie where the apes are using sign language and we need to know what they are saying. The last time I watched this movie was at the cinema and it was all in Spanish including the subtitles.
